What is Cat's Claw?
Cat's Claw is a vine that grows in the Peruvian Rainforest of South America at elevations of 400-800 meters above sea level. It grows up and around other trees and may reach heights of 100 feet or more. The plant was named Cat's Claw because of the small, sharp thorns at the base of each pair of leaves that resemble a cat's claw.
What are the natural properties of Cat's Claw?
It is an immune system booster, infection fighter, and an anti-inflammatory. Cat's Claw is one of the most powerful immune-enhancing herb known. It has immune-stimulating properties, which have greatly surpassed other popular herbs such as Astragalus, Echinacea, Goldenseal, Siberian and Panax Ginseng, Pau d'arco, and Reishi and Shiitake mushrooms.
How does Cat's Claw work?
Cat's Claw activates the immune system by increasing the white blood cell activity. It normalizes the immunoglobulins, the proteins in the body fluids that combat infection, by increasing T-lymphocyte and microphage production.
Important notes on the use of Cat's Claw
Do not purchase products made from the root of the plant. The alkaloid content is lower than that of the inner bark vine and harvesting of the root endangers future supplies.
Cat's Claw should not be taken during pregnancy or if breastfeeding.
Stomach acid is needed for proper absorption of Cat's Claw. If stomach acid is decreased due to a diseased condition or taking antacids or H2 blockers, taking a teaspoon of cider vinegar or lemon juice in 2-4 ounces of water may help with absorption.
